Troy Shields, MD
My journey into medicine started back when I was a student at Douglas High School. I had an opportunity to job shadow Dr. Cummings here at Tahoe Fracture. At that point I fell in love with the practice of medicine, in particular orthopedic surgery. From that point on I wanted to go to Medical School. Throughout my medical education I continued to be drawn to the specialty of orthopedics due to the relationships you develop with you patients and their families, as well as, the ability fix structural problems in the human body. I did my residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Loma Linda University and an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine California where I got advanced clinical and surgical training in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgeries of the shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow. I strive to provide high quality evidence-based care for my patients. I believe truly listening to my patients symptoms and explaining their diagnoses and all treatment options is of the upmost importance, so shared decision making can be made to best guide their recovery. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and two sons, golf, skiing, and enjoying the outdoors that Reno has to offer.
