Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections Available at Our Reno, NV, Orthopedic Clinic
Dr. Rueben Nair and the team of specialists at Tahoe Fracture & Orthopedic Medical Clinic are pleased to make platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections available to patients in Reno, Nevada, and surrounding areas. If you’re experiencing pain, especially pain caused by an unhealed injury, PRP injections may be able to naturally accelerate the healing process.
How Do PRP Injections Work?
You’ve probably heard of red blood cells (which transport oxygen) and white blood cells (which fight infection). But, did you know that your blood also contains platelets and plasma? Platelets (also referred to as “thrombocytes”) help clot blood and repair tissues, and plasma helps the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets travel through the body.
PRP injections contain plasma with a higher-than-normal number of platelets. After drawing some blood, we spin it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the red and white blood cells. Then, we inject the concentrated platelets into the injured tissue. Once the platelets are injected, they begin to stimulate healing.
What Can PRP Injections Be Used to Treat?
We can use PRP injections to treat a wide array of orthopedic injuries, including but not limited to:
- Achilles tendonitis
- Jumper’s knee
- Plantar fasciitis
- Rotator cuff tears
- Tennis elbow
