Tahoe Fracture & Orthopedic Medical Clinic Performs Hip Replacement Surgery for Patients in the Reno, NV, Area and Beyond
Have you been living with chronic hip pain for some time now? Have you tried to resolve your pain using conservative treatment methods, but haven’t been able to find relief? If so, the orthopedic specialists at Tahoe Fracture & Orthopedic Medical Clinic may be able to help. We offer both partial and total hip replacement surgery to residents of Reno, Nevada, and the surrounding areas, and we can let you know whether one of these procedures might be right for you.
Partial Hip Replacement Surgery
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint, consisting of the femoral head (the ball) and the acetabulum (the socket). During a partial hip replacement surgery, we replace the femoral head, but not the acetabulum. This procedure may be appropriate for individuals who have sustained a sudden injury that damaged the femoral head or neck, but not the acetabulum.
Total Hip Replacement Surgery
Unlike with a partial procedure, where we only replace the femoral head, during a total hip replacement surgery we replace both the femoral head and the acetabulum. Total hip replacements are generally more appropriate for patients who are living with chronic hip pain due to a degenerative condition, such as arthritis. This makes sense, as the presence of arthritis would likely affect both the ball and socket portions of the joint, requiring a more stable socket to hold the new prosthetic ball in place.
