South Lake Tahoe, CA, Residents Can Turn to Tahoe Fracture & Orthopedic Medical Clinic for All of Their Spine Problems
If you’re living with chronic neck or back pain, you probably want nothing more than to rid yourself of the symptoms and get back to your normal life. But figuring out what’s causing your pain can be tricky. There’s an endless number of spine problems that can lead to neck and back pain, and you need a professional’s help to diagnose your condition and determine the best course of treatment. Fortunately, the orthopedic specialists at Tahoe Fracture & Orthopedic Medical Clinic in South Lake Tahoe, California, have the training and experience needed to diagnose and treat a wide range of spine problems.
Here are two of the spine problems that our orthopedic specialists regularly treat at our South Lake Tahoe, CA, office:
- Bulging discs — One of the most common spine problems we see is a bulging disc. A spinal disc, which is meant to cushion the surrounding vertebrae, is composed of a tough exterior shell (the annulus fibrosis) and a soft interior (the nucleus pulposus). As the disc weakens, outside pressure may cause inner material to press against the exterior shell, causing the shell to bulge outward.
- Herniated discs — While many people use the terms “bulging disc” and “herniated disc” interchangeably, they actually refer to two separate conditions. A spinal disc herniates when its exterior shell develops small cracks, which then allow the inner material to leak out into the surrounding area. Both bulging and herniated discs can lead to pain if the bulging portion of the disc or the leaking material begin to irritate the spinal cord or nearby nerve roots.
