Dr. Bannar is one
of the newer physicians to join the team at Tahoe Fracture. Dr. Bannar
completed a fellowship with Tahoe Fracture in 1996 and decided to return
to practice with Tahoe Fracture in November 1997. Dr. Bannar attended Rutgers University for
undergraduate studies and went on to medical school at Penn State. During his first
year of medical school, Dr. Bannar was involved in an accident that left
him with a broken back. He says that the accident was the most important
education he ever received. The accident gave him an invaluable
understanding of how it is to be the patient. When Dr. Bannar recovered
and completed medical school, he went on to an internship and residency in
general surgery at the Medical University of
South Carolina at Charleston. Dr. Bannar specializes primarily in
fracture care as well as hand surgery, total joint replacements (hips,
knees and shoulders), and sport related traumas. In his spare time, Dr.
Bannar loves to be out of doors enjoying the beautiful natural scenery of
Lake Tahoe. He is a member of the Wilderness Medical Society and at one
time volunteered for the fire service at Heavenly Valley, where he led
naturalist tours on skis. In 1995, Dr. Bannar volunteered for "Orthopedics
Over Seas" in Vietnam. Dr. Bannar is at Tahoe Fracture's South Lake Tahoe
office 4 days a week and is at the Carson City office on Thursdays.
